Jon's Story

12 years ago - Age 49

In 2012, which was 12 years ago, I weighed approximately 230 pounds. There were signs of impending health issues; my cholesterol and blood pressure were creeping up. Over the course of 20 years, I had been steadily gaining weight due to a sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, and a poor diet.

I also was dealing with painful gout flareups a couple of times a year and would often cause me to be incapacitated for a week or 2 at a time.

Current Photo - Age 60

Due to incorporating a plant-based diet and being more active, I have lost about 60 lbs and feel better with fewer aches and pains.  This photo was taken at Upward Way homestead where I moved to about a year ago.  We are currently involved in helping individuals with their health and wellness thru a faith based approach that incorporates 8 principles of health which are based on a biblical approach to health and healing.

Signs of Dis-ease

In the journey of reclaiming our health, we often encounter moments that awaken us to the changes we must embrace; my battle with gout became a catalyst for personal transformation, revealing the profound connection between what we eat and how we feel. With each painful flare-up, I realized that my body was speaking, urging me to listen and take action. This awakening led me down a path filled with nourishing foods and holistic practices that not only eased my suffering but also ignited a passion for sharing this knowledge with others. Together, we can cultivate resilience and foster a community rooted in health and wellness, where each individual is empowered to thrive and overcome their own challenges.

Life Curve Balls

In the face of life’s unpredictable curveballs, my life experience starting in 2018 and then 2019 became profound turning point that led me to lean into my faith like never before. My diagnosis of prostate cancer was not just a medical challenge; it was a deeply personal journey that stripped away illusions and laid bare what truly matters. This diagnosis followed almost exactly 1 year from learning my wife of almost 30 years had decided life without me would be better.  These trials forced me to confront my purpose, reshaping my understanding of strength, vulnerability, and reliance on God. As I sought healing and clarity, I discovered a community of believers who uplifted my spirit, reminding me that even in darkness, there is light and hope. Thru some communication I received from Chris Wark of Chris beat Cancer. I met a beautiful HealingStrong support group in Stevens Point, WI which was led by Paige Lathrop. This group provided support and community guidance of like minded Christians.

New beginnings

As I reflect on the unexpected journey that brought me to this moment, I realize that every setback has been a setup for something greater. The trials of divorce and cancer, which once felt like insurmountable obstacles, became the catalysts for transformation and love. Through vulnerability, I discovered resilience, and in the face of adversity, I found not just healing, but a partner who shared my passion for helping others reclaim their wellness. Together, Charmaine and I are dedicated to guiding individuals through their unique struggles, igniting hope where there once was despair, and fostering a community where everyone can rise above life’s challenges and flourish in health and happiness.
